Easy-to-use Agrofarm is an excellent all-rounder

When Christchurch Holstein cattle breeder Dean Geddes decided to upgrade his Deutz-Fahr tractor this year, he went for a model that offered greater simplicity.

Dean bought a Deutz-Fahr Agrofarm 100 with front-end loader in August for his Tai Tapu property, where he milks and breeds 350 pedigree Holstein cows and 10 pedigree Jersey cows.

Dean and his wife Jo run an intensive breeding programme. They recently built a barn that can house 460 cows through the winter and heat of the summer. Previously they housed their cows in a tunnel house and a shed during winter, but had to let them out during the day.

The couple have owned Deutz-Fahr tractors for many years. Their Agrotron 90 had done 9500 hours before they replaced it with the Agrofarm 100 this year.“The Agrotron 90 was a really good tractor,” Dean says.

“It had been through the ringer and had done a lot of loader work. One of the axles broke but we had it for close to 15 years.” They also own another brand of

They also own another brand of tractor but decided to stick with Deutz-Fahr this time.

“My other tractor is a good tractor, but I wanted something a bit simpler and the deal Power Farming gave us for the Agrofarm 100 was quite good. I did like the Deutz-Fahr I had and I don’t really like tractors. I don’t like sitting in them but I need two loader tractors here.”

Dean needed a new tractor immediately and was happy to buy the Agrofarm 100, which Power Farming had in stock. He’s very pleased with the new model, which he says is much easier to operate than the Agrotron 90. “With my other Deutz tractor there were lots of switches and buttons, and I wanted something simpler.”

Dean has used the new 100hp Agrofarm for mowing 70 hectares of grass for silage and says it did the job well, despite having less power than his other tractor.

The Deutz-Fahr Agrofarm 100 has an excellent power-to-weight ratio, with a mechanically governed turbo engine. It is ideal for front-end loader work thanks to its dedicated forward/reverse electro-hydraulic power shuttle gearbox.

The model offers productivity and versatility, great manoeuvrability for general farm tasks and quick road speeds. It is a compact tractor but has all the latest high-technology equipment to provide outstanding comfort in all working conditions.

The Agrofarm 100’s 40x40 transmission provides road speeds up to 40 kph. This transmission is broken down into four mechanical ranges (including a creep set), with five speeds and a two stage powershift. This gives the operator an infinite number of gears to match their application.

Dean says the model is ideal for the many different jobs he does on his farm.“It’s very good for loader work. I don’t load silage with it because I have my other tractor for that, but we use it for general work. We are always carting hay. We feed out quite a lot of hay to keep the feed up to the cows, as we calve
