In such a niche industry such as Kiwifruit, finding quality European tractors that can cater for the specific requirements is no easy task. Fortunately, Deutz-Fahr NZ have answered the call from growers throughout the country to offer a tractor that is fit for purpose in the canopies of the Kiwifruit Orchards.

The Kiwi Pro uses Deutz Fahr’s 5DF Ecoline range as the basis of this specialised product which is already an exceptionally spec’d machine. The 3-cylinder 5090 is the model of choice which has an output of 88HP with electronic engine governing giving precise engine control and efficient and consistent power delivery. Strong front axles with four-wheel braking are a standard feature making these tractors equally suited to forklift work and trailer work. The heavy back end of the tractor offers up to 2,600KG l.c. and the 45 l/min hydraulic pump with independent steering pump make these tractors as versatile as they are robust.

This tractor offers an excellent foundation for the Kiwi Pro to be built from. But it is the local modifications and engineering – with input from industry experts and daily operators of the machines – that make the Kiwi Pro really stand out amongst the crowd.

OPTIMISED PERFORMANCE IS THE KEY TO DURABILITY.

Powered by a 3-cylinder FARMotion 2.8l Tier 4i engine with turbo intercooler forced induction, the Kiwi Pro is reliable and will stand up to the stress and strain of work for years to come. Setting these engines apart is a formidable package of decidedly innovative technical content, like the electronically managed Common Rail injection (up to 2000 bar) with 7-hole injectors, a viscostatic fan and the PowerCore combustion air intake filter. It all minimises consumption and boosts productivity. A button on the instrument panel saves and sets engine speed. This speed is then maintained by the electronic control unit, which continuously monitors and adjusts engine performance to ensure constant, uniform operation.

A TRANSMISSION LIKE THIS KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED

Optimised spacing between gear ratios for maximum productivity: this is the goal of the mechanical transmission of the Kiwi Pro, which has been engineered for efficiency. Combining the 5-speed synchronised mechanical with the underdrive gear and super creeper gear increases the number of ratios available to 30+15. The Kiwi Pro has a theoretical top speed of 50km/h but is restricted to 40km/h to achieve maximum travel speed at a reduced eco-engine speed. With integral braking and disc brakes on all 4 wheels, the Kiwi Pro also offers superlative active and passive safety.

CLASS-BEATING MANOEUVRABILITY EVEN IN THE MOST EXTREME CONDITIONS

Hydraulic power is provided to the rear of the Kiwi Pro through a 45l/min dedicated hydraulic pump and the rear linkage provides a total lift of 2,600KG. 3 pairs of QRC’s and a single line free flow return cater to most rear mounted implements. A separate dedicated hydraulic pump provides oil for the hydraulic steering to keep the tractor working efficiently and maximise manoeuvrability in tight headland.

DESIGNED FOR A COMFORTABLE, PLEASANT DRIVING EXPERIENCE.

Comfort and space are also maximised in the design of the Kiwi Pro, with its uncluttered, roomy and comfortable driving area. The transmission levers are on the right-hand side of the seat, so they do not hamper the driver climbing into and out of the seat. The suspended pedals are adjusted for uncompromised comfort with the modified footwells, and an adjustable steering wheel ensure a perfect driving position. Special deflectors in clear polycarbonate protect the driver from dirt and noise, while offering an unimpeded view of the front wheel.
